I started a blog a year ago and never wrote anything.

I guess I’m the type of person who gets really excited about something, thinks it’s going to be the thing I do for the rest of my life, makes future plans around this thing…and then never actually does the thing.

Why do I keep doing this?

Here are a few examples:

  1. The Keyboard

I bought a very expensive keyboard (I needed the best, obviously) because I was going to learn to play, sing, and perform in bars. I already had show themes and costumes picked out.

Never learned one song.

2. The Business I started in my Head

I started a business in my head teaching people how to get into HR and payroll—my actual career—in order to help them start a new career. I thought about the lesson plans, figured out how much money I could earn, and planned out my future retirement based on these earnings.

Never signed anyone up.

3. The Masters Degree

I started a master’s program in Expressive Arts Therapy. I took out a loan, planned a move to Arizona (which is where the second year of school would be), completed a semester…and then realized I needed therapy myself and probably shouldn’t be giving therapy.

So I quit school.

I’m still paying back the loans, of course, so I guess I did continue something here.

4. The CDL

I enrolled in a CDL course.
Which, in hindsight, was an interesting choice because I am probably the worst driver I know.

I actually studied, took the test…and didn’t pass.

So maybe this one doesn’t count because I did try?

5. The Flamenco Shoes

I moved to Spain for a while, signed up for Flamenco classes, and quit Flamenco because it felt like my feet were breaking.

I still dance. Just not Flamenco.

Still have the shoes!

Am I the only person who feels like they’re constantly doing this?

Is this a bad thing? Could it actually be a good thing?

Instead of deciding whether it’s bad or good, I’ve decided that this is just who I am.

And I’m going to embrace it.

I’ve decided I’m going to do what sounds fun and exciting, and if I only get one week of enjoyment out of it, so be it!

At this point in my life, with work and bills and adulting, I’d rather get excited about starting something new—even if it ends—than not have anything to get excited about at all.

Which brings me back to my blog, which I have officially started one year after picking out and paying for the domain, setting up the site, and…not writing anything.

Here is my first blog post.

Will it be my last?

Only time will tell.

But this was super fun to work on today.
